Upon closing, the restrooms are boarded up, due to a certain animatronic using the wrong one [123]. Pillars are installed to help divide up the dining area. The closet phased out of existence, and the kitchen is the same as always: nonexistent. Of course, the animatronics and rampant rats are all left to their own devices, while the place just falls into a state of complete disrepair.

Some unknown stormy night after the (third) pizzeria closes, William Afton returns to the scene of the crime [124]. He takes down the old false wall and sets up shop inside the old safe room, protected from the animatronics while inside.
Either over the course of between one and five nights, depending on who you ask, starting on a Tuesday to Saturday, during the hours of 12-6 A.M. is the time period for this, real specific, I know.

Why does he need to hide inside his walls, when he can attack them no problem.



Freddy is the first to activate and takes (TIME) to follow Shadow Freddy outside the restrooms, but is blocked by an Err when he attempts to enter the safe room. William emerges to ???, and disassemble Freddy.

Bonnie activates, but is unable to follow Shadow Freddy to the forbidden half of the restaurant, and witnesses HINT in the West Hall. After 3 minutes pass, William attacks him and drags his body parts outside the safe room.

Chica activates and takes (TIME) to also be dismembered by William.

Foxy takes (time) to run to the office, but finds nobody there. Not sure what to do in this scenario, he elects to follow Shadow Freddy to the safe room, and his own demise at William's bare hands.

When the animatronics are destroyed, the spirits of Gabriel, Fritz, Susie, and Jeremy are unknowingly released to enact revenge upon William. Also, the secret fifth spirit of Cassidy appears out of nowhere with the same intent, even though Golden Freddy is not present anywhere accessible to William. To William's surprise, the ghosts CAN enter the safe room, except four of them don't really take advantage of this. They just stand around to block the extremely wide doorway, and watch Cassidy slowly chasing William in circles about the safe room.
Eventually, William finally has an idea for once in his life and runs over to don the old Spring Bonnie suit [125]. The disguise worked on them when they were alive, so why would it not work on their ghosts? Unfortunately for William, though, the suit is right beneath a leak in the ceiling from the ongoing thunderstorm outside. This loosens the spring locks within the Spring Bonnie suit, grotesquely injuring and irreparably maiming him. It also kills him too.
So, the ghosts fade away to just hang around and do nothing for a few decades until they are relevant to the plot again, depending on which endings are actually canon and whatnot. While they do that, William possesses this particular Spring Bonnie suit, and his name is Springtrap [126].
Shortly afterward, someone somehow reseals the room again, springing the trap to trap Springtrap [127]. The old and abandoned building is simply left alone, with no real estate developers, or the like, in sight.
Springtrap has a merry Christmas trying to escape his trap, but can't, because he is, in fact, dead. He decides to take a break and soon goes offline, until next time.
He is still here. 20 years later, only one left. He'll always be here.
