Primitive Jesus club leadership structure (1 gen 50 anni – 31 dic 119 anni)
Descrizione:
The itinerant messengers of the Jesus cult (“apostles”) are the original power players among the far-flung clubs. There is no institutionalized leadership class at this time. Apostles assert a divine claim to a portion of the material resources of the clubs they plant, a privilege that lends itself to abuse or at least concerns of abuse. In particular, a large-scale collection organized by Paul for the poor of Judea seems to have been clouded by sketchy optics or palace intrigue of some sort. Apostolic groupies might have been a thing?
Jesus clubs are led by nondescript “leaders” or “teachers”.
The Didache is written (piecemeal, over an extended timeframe): a set of church orders and instructions for new converts. It may originate from the same Jewish Jesus club that would go on to create the gospel of Matthew. “Bishops” and “deacons” are terms used for local leaders who are on par with the wandering apostles who previously tended the club. There’s an element of rising impatience with this itinerant leadership, especially in light of “Christ-mongers” who overstay their welcome and take advantage of Christian charity, peddling Jesus woo for material gain. The Didache also attests to variant versions of the sacraments:
> Baptism in the name of the Lord only (as opposed to the Trinity, as in orthodox baptism)
> A Eucharist tradition that has nothing to do with the body and blood of Jesus (!)
