Following the post-Akkadian empire dark age, the Ur III Empire reconquered much of Mesopotamia. This dynasty was based in the Sumerian city of Ur and was the last Sumerian dynasty and a Neo-Sumerian state. They were done in by a combination of forces, notably the Ammorites in the west and Elamites in the east.
