(Term 4) A conflict between the United States of America and the United Kingdom. It was caused by the impressment of American sailors by British ships, violating the rights of the American people.

1. It further secured our independence by asserting the United States as a nation not to be trifled with even though it wasn't our biggest success

2. Prompted the United States to greatly improve their navy in order to be more prepared next time something similar occurred

3. Prepared the United States for westward expansion by weakening native tribes who had chosen the side of the British
