Model of the Atom: Atomos (Democritus) (1 gen 470 anni a. C. – 1 gen 0 anni)

Descrizione:

A Greek philosopher, Democritus theorised that atoms were miniature and solid particles that came in different sizes and shapes depending on their element. He also named these particles 'atomos', a Greek term for indivisible. To discover the atom, Democritus performed a simple experiment: breaking a seashell in half over and over again until it formed into a fine powder. He then attempted to break the tiniest piece of powder but failed. This was when he proposed the idea that atoms were small and indestructible. With Democritus' lack of evidence, other philosophers found this idea to be ridiculous and this discovery was forgotten for more than 2000 years.
