Known for his published works, Edwards placed great emphasis on the condition of the heart. He shifted the emphasis in theology from one’s belief in doctrines alone to the realm of affections in determining the case for one’s salvation. Jonathan Edwards made his second trip to America in 1739 where he began preaching in public. He saw astonishing results as tens of thousands gathered to hear him.
