The Battle of Iwo Jima was a military campaign between Japan and the US located 750 miles off the coast of Japan as well as the bloodiest battle on the Pacific front. Only 200 0f the 21,000 Japanese forces would survive. Prior to the attack, Japan was already at risk at losing part of its territory which included Iwo Jima. The US, wanting to keep Japan at bay, would plan to attack Iwo Jima believing acquiring this territory would only take a few days. It took a month.
