Red River Resistance (1 gen 1869 anni – 1 gen 1870 anni)

Descrizione:

The Red River Resistance (also known as the Red River Rebellion) took place in the Red River Colony in 1869–70. The transfer of the huge area of Rupert's Land to the fledgling Dominion of Canada prompted the rebellion. The colony of farmers and hunters, many of whom were Métis, occupied a piece of Rupert's Land and were concerned about their culture and land rights being taken away by the Canadians. The Métis fought back, forming a provisional government to negotiate terms for joining the Confederacy. The insurrection resulted in the formation of Manitoba and the rise of Métis leader Louis Riel, a hero to his people and many in Quebec, but an outlaw to the Canadian government.
