This time period refers to the fight between those who followed Veronica and her visions, the members of St. Robert Bellarmine’s Church, and the non-catholic members of Bayside, Queens. Veronica's Mary vision said that she would be venerated as Our Lady of Roses in the land that is St. Robert Bellarmine’s Church. Furthermore, Bayside Hills Civic Association found her crowds disruptive to the community. At the height of the conflict, 100 police officers were stations on the block to keep Bayside Hills Civic Association and the Baysiders from altercation. (Laycock 17, 63)
