Poland took control of the Lithuanian capital: Vilna. Lithuania asked the League for help but the Poles did not retreat even after the League asked them to. After Poland refused to retreat, the League was not in a position to fight back as France and Britain’s economy was still weak. Due to this, the League awarded the city to Poland. This was important as it was the first time that the League didn’t succeed in helping a country in need. Lithuania asked for help but the League didn’t do anything to help them and instead gave the city to Poland. It showed the public that the League was not perfect, and this failure wasn't learnt from for many years to come, as it was repeated over and over until it was too late.
