The worlds of North and the South were very different, between geography and society. The South believed in the free labor of slaves while the North believed it was wrong. The North and the South developed very different life styles, one of the reasons being geography. In the South, the climate and land were ideal for agriculture and warm-weather crops like rice, cotton, and sugarcane. The Norths physical features supported having harbors and the climate supported crops such as corn and wheat. The Norths climate and land also supported the the harvesting of timber. The Souths economy solely depended on agriculture while the North impacted on the Industrial Revolution, with mills and factories. The North advanced in transportation with new railroads and steamboats to make travel easier, while the South continued to travel by river with fewer rail lines. The Souths society was entirely different from the Norths, as the wealthy southerners had great influence on power. But even the poorest of poor southerners ranked above African Americans in the South. In the North, They too had wealthy classes but depended more on hard work and comfort rather than power.
