The american revolution was a combination of high taxation and little representation in the american colonies from the British crown witch inspired colonists to declare independence and form a new, republican government. In this new government, governing authority was invested in the hands of the citizens and not a ruling monarch. The american revolution promoted liberalism and individual thinking because of the nature of the revolution itself, a break from authority and a movement of power to the citizens of the new nation of America. We can see how these ideologies have evolved in america over time by looking at the value of freedom and liberty in American society
