Latin American Revolutions (1 gen 1808 anni – 1 gen 1829 anni)

Descrizione:

The Latin American revolutions were a series of revolutions within Latin America in which colonies that were formerly controlled by Spain and Portugal declared and fought for independence. The revolutions were led by people such as Simon Bolivar and helped abolish slavery and the casta system in many places in Latin America.

Brazil had a strange path to independence specifically, since it was a Portuguese colony rather than a Spanish one. Some time before the revolutions, the Portuguese royal family relocated to Brazil, which became co-equal to Portugal. When the king's son, Dom Pedro I, was left in charge of Brazil, Pedro declared independence for Brazil after becoming sympathetic to the revolution.
