Gallipoli Campaign (19 feb 1915 anni – 9 gen 1916 anni)

Descrizione:

An unsuccessful attempt to control the ocean route from England to Russia, by allied powers. It began with an attempted attack on Dardanelles Straits by French and British ships, which failed entirely and hardly anything was gained. This failure was followed by land invasions of The Gallipoli Peninsula. Once again failing, this time due to a lack of terrain knowledge and a strong Turkish resistance, resulted in the loss of the battle for the British and French, and a so called victory for the Turkish. A hesistence to call a it a victory is due to tens of thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands casualties for both sides. However this battle showed Turkey's strength to potential future invaders.
