On this day the Communist Government of the German Democratic Republic began building a wall that would separate Germany into east and west.-At first it was built with concrete and barbed wire.
-It was meant to keep western fascists out of east Germany.
-The intense wall continued to stand until November 9 1989.
-It was then determined that citizens could pass over the border as they please.
-People were so happy they brought hammers to break down the wall themselves.
