Message to Nesan (1 dic 1941 anni – 1 dic 1941 anni)
Descrizione:
Naomi's Aunt (Aunt Emily) sends a letter right after the Pearl Harbour bombing takes place. In her letter, she clearly explains how Japanese-Canadians are used to the prejudice: "On the whole, I'd say we're taking things in our stride. We're used to the prejudice by now after all these long years..." (Kogawa 137). She also writes that, "Here at home there's mass hatred of us simply because we're of Japanese origin." (Kogawa 143). These two quotes surely demonstrates how there has been massive discrimination against Japanese culture. Also, Japanese-Canadians have become used to the prejudice since it has been an occurrence for a long time.
