Max Eisenhardt reveals to Xavier and the elder students that Lorna Dane has been imprisoned on Genosha, a country with extremely racsist treatment of Akkara. Asking for their help in releasing her, Xavier refuses, saying they should attempt a diplomatic solution. Max refuses, arguing that there was no diplomatic solution to Hitler. He leaves, heading for Genosha. The elder students, lead by Scott Summers, go with him. They are immediately imprisoned in mutant work camps upon arrival.

Xavier, desperate, reaches out to Logan, offering to help him retrieve his memories if Logan will assist him in getting his students back. Logan agrees, and travels undercover to Genosha while Xavier attempts to negotiate their release with Genosha President Cameron Hodge, to no avail.

Logan makes contact with Lucas Bishop, leader of the NuHuman movement on Genosha. A unified force of mutants lead a rebellion against the government of Genosha. Charles Xavier is wounded in the fighting, losing his ability to walk. Max Eisenhardt seizes control of Genosha after assassinating Cameron Hodge, declaring it a Protected NuHuman State. He institutes a dictatorship under the House of M, expelling all humans and inviting the genetically gifted from around the world to come and live in peace.
