The Oregon Trail ran from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon beginning in 1843. This 2,000 mile journey was traveled by thousands of people making the move West. It was a very difficult journey in covered wagons, but helped speed up western settlement. The trail was used regularly until the introduction of the Transcontinental Railroad.
