- consolidated macedonia using the army with a weapon he invented called the sarissa (long ass spear, requires training to use)
- managed to unite the agriculture and city people
- reformed the military, invented that giant spear
- his army was training all year round so they could practice with the spears
- soldiers were loyal to phillip himself
- instituted a group of “royal pages,”
(sons of macedonian barons. like having hostages - honorific)
- had a group of tough commanders
- had domination over virtually all of greece
united all of the greek states (?)
- he had money problems → army was hard to maintain
- had a mission, wanted to excel above all others
- had a plan to invade persia → get rid of medizing, will stop paying taxes n have more money
- united macedon, powerful army, extremely well trained
- assasinated in 336, maybe alexander was involved
