An intercolonial organization, calling themselves the First Continental Congress, met in Philadelphia in response to the Coercive Acts. They defined American rights and petitioned the king for redress of their grievances. They also increased their commitment to nonimportation by creating the “Association,” an intercolonial body to enforce their policies. Because of the Association, many colonists will begin making their own goods, and my business will be prosecuted due to English imports. As a result, the First Continental Congress is detrimental to my business.
