Descrizione:
In 1192, Minamoto Yorimoto was designated a military leader or a shogun. With him, the first shogunate was established (bakufu). This system of government lasted until the 19th century. The shogunate was a feudal military dictatorship, with the shogun as the supreme military leader appointed by the emperor. From 1603 to 1869, a series of more than 50 shoguns lead Japan.
One of the most important and well-known shoguns in Japanese history was Tokugawa Yoshimune. In his rule, he found more sources for income and food, laid the structures of more humane laws than previous and attempted to raise national morale. Minamoto Yorimoto was also a memorable shogun in Japan, as he founded the Kamakura shogunate after a victory in the Genpei War.
Originally, shoguns were legally supposed to answer to the emperor, but over time the military got more control over places in Japan. There were 3 major shogunates in Japan, Kamakura, Ashikaga and Tokugawa.
