Actions arose politically with the split and the Republican Party as William Howard Taft became president and continued the conservation efforts of Roosevelt. He won against some opinions of corporate politicians and companies as he protected the environment try declaring some mining lands for oil as federal land and expanding the US forest reserves. This split in the Republican Party was caused by feeling of betrayal on tap's behalf. Several cases like the Payne-Aldrich tariff, The Pinchot-Ballinger Controversy, the House Speaker Joe Cannon, and the Midterm Elections all went against Taft.
