Prague Spring was a time period of in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic characterized by mass protest and political upheaval. Until the Soviet Union invaded to suppress the reforms, the Czechoslovakian government loosened restrictions on the media, speech and travel.

Significance: The Soviets responded harshly, creating a lot of hostility towards the Soviet government. This resentment eventually contributed to it demands for independence.
