The Christian Right (1 gen 1970 anni – 1 gen 1990 anni)

Descrizione:

A backlash developed against the social changes brought on by the liberalism of the of the 1960s. The counterculture, with its lose clothing and long hair, and the trouwint use of recreational drugs and the dramatic increase in the divorce rate the proposed Equal Rights Amendment and the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion in the first trimester made many Christians feel that the traditional family was being attacked and this led to the growth of the Christian Right. This was a coalition of evangelical Christians and Catholics that supported traditional values, laissez-faire economics, and an uncompromising anti-communist foreign policy. They joined forces with political conservatives to pursue their agendas. TV became an even greater instrument for the Christian Right. The Reverend Pat Robertson founded the Christian Broadcasting network which further spread the Christian Right message to millions of homes. The significance of the Christian Right was that it openly merged religion with electoral politics, which led to the formation of the Moral Majority. The Christian Right is still a powerful political force to this day.
