o Will Institutionen reformieren, vor allem das Heer.
o Widerstand durch Janitscharen und Sipahis (lokale Kavallerie).
o Erschafft eine „alternative“ Infantrie.

• Revolte und Gegenrevolte
o 1807: Janitscharen und ulema revoltieren, Selim wird abgesetzt.
o 1808: Zurückeroberung Istanbuls durch Nizam-i Cedid.
o Selim III. wird ermordet
