The Protestant Reformation led to the deterioration of nursing as it ushered out Catholicism, which supported hospitals/monasteries and nuns filled the roles of nurses. During this time, nursing was not viewed as respectable or intellectual work. Since it lost economic support/ social status, nursing practices didn't improve or progress for a long time.
