Hatshepsut was a female pharaoh
She created a mythology around her kingship
Divine birth, oracle predicted that she would become king
Ruled for more than two decades
Commissioned the construction of many temples and sculptures
Her imagery displayed:
timelessness
Symmetry
Wears the headcloth of the king (originally would have had a cobra)
Beard
Shown somewhat masculine
Feminine form inscriptions
Position indicates that she would be kneeling to a god making an offering.
These sculptures would have been placed along a processional path.
Once a year the sculpture of the god Amun Re would be carried on a boat shrine from Thebes to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut.
Spent one night in the shrine at the temple then returned.
