Nullification crisis (19 magg 1828 anni – 15 marzo 1833 anni)

A high protective tariff or tax was signed into law by the U.S government. South Carolina -specifically John C Calhoun strongly disagreed with high tariffs and felt that they felt targeted the south unfairly. South Carolina was nullified the federal law calling it unconsitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state to make sure the law was followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the U.S government lowered the tax. The U.S government would not send troops if south Carolina agreed to pay the lower tax.
