Descrizione:

1. First Industrial Revolution (1760-1789): Began in Britain, then spread to the rest of Western Europe, the United States, Japan, and Russia. Involved steam power, the cotton gin, industrialization, and mass production. Moved production from homes to factories.
2. American Revolution (1765-1783): Declaration of Independence inspired subsequent declarations of freedom. Ideas, more than war, was revolutionary.
3. French Revolution (1789-1795): Started when the Estates General meeting disregarded the Third Estate. They created the Declaration of the Rights of the Man and of the Citizen, overthrew the monarchy, and the Committee of Public Safety formed, leading to the Reign of Terror. Finally reigned in by Napoleon in 1799.
4. Haitian Revolution (1791-1804): After hearing of the French Revolution, enslaved peoples, led by Toussaint Louverture, rebelled against plantation owners in Haiti. Factions formed in the revolution, before the slaves (who made up the majority of the population), finally came out on top. Society in Haiti was flipped on its head.
5. Latin American Revolutions (1806-1826): Many led by Simon Bolivar, and a result of Napoleon's conquests, which destabilized Spanish leadership and power in Latin America. Creoles made up majority of participants, backed by nativist ideas.
6. Opium Wars (1839-1860): Resulted from the Qing government trying to prevent the illegal trade of opium, which was primarily fueled by Britain, and later tried to prevent Britain and France from getting inroads into Chinese trade. European powers won both wars, and opium was a serious issue in China.
7. Irish Potato Famine (1845-1849): Large amounts of potato crops, the primary part of most Irish people's diets, were ruined by a fungus-like infestation, causing many Irish people to immigrate to other countries.
8. Meiji Restoration in Japan (1868): Finally ended the Tokugawa Shogunate, restored imperial system. The nation united and the army was strengthened to defend against foreign powers.
9. Berlin Conference (1885): Regulated European colonization and splitting up of Africa. Took place as Germany was on the rise as an imperial power.
10: Spanish-American War (1898): U.S. went to war against Spain and won, gaining Guam, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Cuba.
