Harlem Renaissance (1 gen 1918 anni – 1 gen 1935 anni)
Descrizione:
The Great Migration brought scores of African Americans north, mostly to Harlem, New York and Chicago. These tight-knit communities empowered the black community, and their culture took on a life of its own. The Harlem Renaissance as it was later named held three main ideas: African heritage, Southern folk tradition, and a new African voice. Places like the Cotton Club and countless artists (Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Aaron Douglass, Bessie Smith, and Palmer Hayden to name a few) made the renaissance revolutionary. This was a huge step for black rights, because people began to acknowledge their talents and humanity.
