Semi-Conservative DNA Replication Mathew Meselson, Franklin Stahl (1 gen 1958 anni – 1 gen 1958 anni)

Descrizione:

At the California Institute of Technology in California, scientists Mathew Meselson and Franklin Stahl wanted to know how DNA replicated, especially after Watson and Crick’s article about DNA’s structure in 1953 and Delbrück’s paper which argued Watson and Crick’s hypothesis about how DNA replicates. Beginning in 1957, Meselson and Franklin began experimenting based on Delbrück and Stent’s as well as Watson and Crick’s theories on DNA replicating as either dispersive, conservative, or semi-conservative. The experiments revealed that DNA replication was in fact semi-conservative just as Watson and Crick had suggested. This discovery provided solid proof for Watson and Crick's theory, has assisted in future genetic modification and has allowed researchers, students, and others to have a better understanding of DNA’s function and how DNA is created.
