DNA contains genetic code theory
Avery, McCarty, MacLeod (1 gen 1944 anni – 1 gen 1944 anni)
Descrizione:
While studying Streptococcus in the U.S.A., the scientists Avery, McCarty, and MacLeod took an interest in the smooth and rough strains of streptococci identified by Frederick Griffith. In an effort to solve how the smooth strain could turn rough strains into smooth strains the three bacteriologists went through various hypotheses such as the change affected by proteins which was disproved after conducting an experiment with proteases which are meant to break down proteins. After experimenting with proteins, lipids, and RNA, they sought out DNA’s impression in transformation which is when they found out that DNA was actually the source of genetic information and not proteins which was thought before to have been the source.
