Australopithecus Afarensis (1 gen 4000000 anni a. C. – 1 gen 3000000 anni a. C.)

Descrizione:

Australopithecus Afarensis
(Austra- low- pith-i-cus Af-are-"n"-zis)

Australopithecus Afarensis was the first of our ancestors to walk on two feet. Australopithecus Afarensis were biped which means standing on two feet, this helped them carry food and their children easily while walking, also less of their body was exposed to the sun by being biped.

Australopithecus Afarensis was around 4 feet tall, though females were significantly smaller than males, they were the size of an average three year older!

Australopithecus Afarensis has the nicknamed "Southern Ape"

Australopithecus Afarensis even though they were biped still lived mostly in the trees.

Australopithecus Afarensis brain size is around 3 times smaller than a human brain.

Australopithecus Afarensisand had long, strong arms with curved fingers based on this information I know that these features helped them climb trees and made it easier to live in the trees unlike humans who are better walkers than the Australopithecus Afarensis.

EXTRA INFO

Australopithecus afarensis had both ape and human characteristics: members of this species had apelike face proportions (a flat nose, a strongly projecting lower jaw) and braincase (with a small brain, usually less than 500 cubic centimeters -- about 1/3 the size of a modern human brain),
