Location: Ardennes, Nazi Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg
Summary: After Americans captured their first German town, Hitler responded by ordering his troops to break through the Allied lines and to recapture the Belgian port. Eight German tank divisions broke through American and British forces. The Germans drove 60 miles into the Allied territory, creating a bulge. As the Germans advanced, they captured 120 American GI's. This battle went on for a month until the Germans had no choice but to retreat.
Significance: This battle was very significant because in the end, very little changed except for the huge losses that the German's faced. They had lost 120,000 troops, 600 tanks and guns, and 1,600 planes.
