The war that lasted 116 years between England and France. During this time, the English had a lot of land in French territory, but the French slowly pushed them away until the English had a small portion left called Guyenne. However, King Philip IV, the French King, wanted to take Guyenne as well. The English King, Edward III, would not back down. Thus the Hundred Years War started. The Hundred Years war brought many new inventions, such as the longbow, which gave English a huge advantage during the war. Chivalry also died down, since professional mercenaries were hired on both sides. Even though the English had the upper hand most of the war, thanks to Joan of Arc, a young peasant girl that lead the French forces to victory in Orléans. Helped the French gain momentum, and drove the English out for good.
