Decline of Lead Mining (1 gen 1840 anni – 1 dic 1850 anni)

Descrizione:

In the 1840s lead mining took its peak in Wisconsin. The demand for lead in Wisconsin was declining. The miners exhausted the supply of easily obtainable ore. Mining became much more expensive and people didn’t want to invest and hope to make quick money. In 1844 about one third of the Southwest region of Wisconsin had left to find some other copper and iron. There was also the California gold rush in 1849. Some miners stayed to mine for zinc, but most of the population left but came back in the late 19th century.
