By 1900, nearly all of Africa and Asia was colonized by European nations. Around 1945, Africa and Asia began to push for independence. Asia and Africa were colonized by European countries such as the Dutch, France, and Great Britain. These former European colonies fought for independence by war and protest. Some states that became independent were Ghana, Kenya, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
