Vietnam War (8 apr 1955 anni – 30 apr 1975 anni)
Descrizione:
The Vietnam War is also known as the Second Indochina War, and was conflict between North and South Vietnam. The communist North Vietnam was heavily backed by the People's Republic of China, the Soviet Union, and other communist allies. Despite the fact that South Vietnam was allied with Australia, the United States, South Korea, the Philippines, and other anti-communist allies, the North invaded the South, and ended with the fall of Saigon. In August 1962, Australia became involved in the Vietnam War and soon sent in the AATTV, or the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam to aid South Vietnam. Australia's participation in the war was formally declared at an end when the Governor-General issued a proclamation on 11 January 1973. This especially involved Gough Whitlam, the current PM at the time. He not only ended Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, but also stopped the conscription of Australians, the mandatory war recruitment.
