The Stolen Generations was the removal of children of Indigenous Australian and Torres Strait Islander descent from their rightful homes. 'Half-caste' children were also stolen. 'Half-caste' was a racist and derogatory term for children that were half-Aboriginal and half-white. The children of the Stolen Generations were placed into homes, camps, and other instalments to be 're-educated' in the 'correct way'. Back in those times, the 'correct way' meant the 'white way'. People such as Mr A.O Neville, former Chief Protector of Aborigines in Western Australia, were especially looking out for the 'half-caste' children. If a child's skin was particularly fair, they would be allowed an actual education! It was incredibly unfair and cruel, as we are not defined by the colour of our skin, but the prejudiced and horrid people back then thought what they were doing was 'right'...in a way. Luckily, we've made amends, such as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's apology speech to the Stolen Generations, the annual Reconciliation Week and Day, and more currently, the Black Lives Matter protests in not only Australia, but also America, demanding fair rights for the First Nations people in Australia and African-Americans in America.
