A failed attempt by British American colonists to gain independence as a reaction to the British legislative crackdowns after the defeat in the Great War.
Although the American secessionists, who referred to themselves as 'patriots' (as opposed to the 'loyalists', who remained aligned with the British crown), saw some minor successes in the Battles of Boston and Richmond, they were decisively crushed in the Battle of New York City on November 3rd, 1781.
Following that defeat, the Patriots tried to retreat towards French-held Ohio, but were stopped in western Pennsylvania and defeated once more at the Battle of Pittsburgh on February 1st, 1782.
Subsequently, a last mad dash northwards to reach Lake Erie and follow the water's coastline towards French-held Canada was also thwarted at the Battles of Meadville (February 21st) and the Battle of Edinboro (February 30th). Following the disaster at Edinboro, where the remaining Patriots had suffered 40% casualties, George Washington, commander of the uprising, surrendered to the enemy on March 1st.
King George III would personally sentence him to death, and the execution of Washington and several fellow members of the Patriot movement would be conducted on May 1st, 1782.
