Pericles was one of the earliest politicians. He would regularly speak at the town assemblies where legislation and policies were determined. The Athenians firmly believed that they were in control of the policies, but in reality, it was Pericles. He rose to power in 444 BC. His primary focus was maintain Greece's strength at sea.
