Descrizione:
A despotic emperor who modernised Russia.
He travelled through Western Europe in his youth, which inspired him to modernise his country. An access to the Baltic was essential for trade, so the tsar started the Great Northern War. After the war, Russia became one of the superpowers.
Peter I introduced extensive internal reforms, securing absolute, tyrranical power for himself.
During his time, the capital was moved to St. Petersburg, founded on Peter's command. Tens of thousands of serfs died building the city.
The tsar also simplified the cyrillic alphabet. It's been used in this form until today.
