Persian Exile גלות מדי [biblical] (1 gen 486 anni a. C. – 1 gen 464 anni a. C.)
Descrizione:
The second of the traditional four exiles.
According to Jewish tradition, during the reign of King Achashverosh (Xerxes I) of the Persian Empire (who ruled over the Land of Israel and nearly all of the Jewish diaspora from India to Ethiopia), the ongoing construction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem was halted, and the Jewish people faced the threat of genocide. While there was no massive displacement of the Jewish people at this time, the oppression of the Jewish people and disruption of Temple worship lead this time period to be considered an "exile".
Achashverosh's persecution of the Jewish people and his eventual reversal of policy is documented in the book of Esther in the Tanakh, and is commemorated with the holiday of Purim. After Achashverosh's death, the Second Temple was completed, bringing this exile to an end.
There is little to no historical evidence that this persecution occured. Nevertheless, Xerxes I was a real king, and this timeline shows the datges of his rule as the duration of the Persian Exile.
