The term Acharonim refers to rabbis writing throughout the Jewish world after the publication of the Shulchan Aruch.

The Acharonim make halachic rulings that are relevant to their own time periods and locations, usually rooted in the the decisions of the Shulchan Aruch, and compose commentaries on previous works of Jewish law and philosophy, as well as writing original works often in the genres of Kabbalah and Hassidut, as well as Jewish philosophy and ethical instruction.
