Rishonim (1 gen 1038 anni – 1 gen 1563 anni)

Descrizione:

The term Rishonim refers to rabbis writing throughout the Jewish world from the closure of the yeshivot of Sura and Pumpedita to the writing of the Shulchan Aruch.

The Rishonim wrote many works of Jewish philosophy, and ruled on Jewish legal questions that were relevant to their own time periods and locations, as well as writing extensive commentaries on previous Jewish works such as the Mishnah and Gemara. They also compiled books of Jewish law, further codifying halacha.

The era of the Rishonim also saw the growing importance of Kabbalistic texts.

Important figures: Rabbeinu Gershom, Maimonides, Rashi, Yehuda Halevi

(first written references to the holiday of Lag Baomer)
