SPANISH CIVIL WAR
The Spanish Civil War broke out when General Francisco
Franco rallied military officers to overthrow the
Republican government. Franco’s supporters, the
Nationalists, were afraid that the Republican government
would lead to the spread of Marxism. They adopted
fascist ideas and Germany and Italy supported Franco as
they rebelled against the Republic, which was aided by
the USSR. The Republicans eventually surrendered and
Franco declared hims (17 lugl 1936 anni – 1 apr 1939 anni)
