A series of wars fought between the British and the Boer tribes in South Africa. The war would end in British victory and the colony of South Africa. The war began after the British decided to unite the South African colony-states. The Boers would fight fiercely, and even push the British back a lot in the first war. Then, there was a period of peace, somewhat like that of the ongoing Korean war, before the British attacked again in 1899. Their reason for doing so was a discovery of gold in the Boer's territory, which made them a threat in the eyes of the British. For the first 3-4 months, it seemed like this war would be a repeat of the first war. However, British troops were relieved, and soon the British were able to annex the Boer territories. This event is very significant in the British imperialist timeline. By holding land like South Africa, the Brits owned and controlled a large portion of Africa. They were able to control trade that went around Africa, and benefited from the natural resources in the colonies in Africa. This event relates to the British industrialization, as the control of this territory proved to be one of many economic hotlines that the British could use, selling their technology forcefully to their colonies. They could then use what they got from selling to create even more new technology.
