 - Idumean Politician and the king of the Jews
- Appointed tetrarch of Galilee by the Roman Senate in 42BC and King of the Jews on 40BC.
- Defeated last Hasmonean, Antigonus in 37BC, to secure rule. 
- Greatly expanded and beautified the second Jerusalem Temple.
- Slaughtered the innocents of Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus.
