The onset of the Great Depression was arguably the most significant reason the Weimar Republic collapsed. The 1929 economic collapse had dire consequences for Germany. In 1932, two fifths of the German population were out of jobs, six million men. In 1919, after the Treaty of Versailles was concluded, the Weimar Republic faced opposition from the outset. They blame the failing of the Weimar Republic on the coalition governments, but that could also be attributed within the political spectrum to deep ideological cleavages and interests.
