The Rise Of Christianity (16 dic 313 anni – 23 lugl 391 anni)

Descrizione:

Christianity was officially made legal by Constantine in 313 AD (Trueman, 2017) and in the 380’s to 390’s Emperor Theodosius made a series of laws that slowly established Christianity as the legal religion of Rome, and outlawed other religions (Wikipedia, 2017). This was a massive change for Rome, as they had always had a religion with many different gods. Obviously there were challenges with this new change, many people simply wouldn’t accept it. This created a kind of divide between some people, but that was the least of their worries. The establishment of Christianity as the only legal religion was a terrible decision from a leadership point of view. Since government and religion were so intertwined in ancient Rome, with prophetic books controlling battleplans and Emperors viewed as a kind of god, Christianity was obviously going to shake the system (Gill, 2017). The Emperor lost “god status”, as there is only one god now, and the leaders of the church were gaining incredible amounts of power that they had never had before. Christianity was pretty much just another straw on the Camel’s back that Rome really didn’t need at that time, and some might even argue that it was the straw that broke the Camel’s back and eventually caused the fall of Rome.
